Working Towards Gender Justice: Empowering Spaces for Trans, Nonbinary, and Gender Expansive Communities

May 28, 2024 | 3:00 p.m. EST

Facilitators: Translate Gender Co-Directors--James Shultis, MFA; Shai Kuper, MSW, LCSW;and members of the Translate Gender Community

Affiliation: Translate Gender, Northampton, MA

Description: Join Translate Gender, a trans-led community non-profit based in Western Massachusetts, as we embark on a conversation about creating inclusive and welcoming relationships with trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive individuals. In a time where anti-trans legislation is at an all-time high, we know that we must build and sustain our practices of gender justice that includes community organization, education, and changing the ways we talk and think about gender. This session will support our ongoing community learning related to gender (expression, identity, and perception), experiences that trans and gender expansive people have when navigating health and human service programs, and the impact of our current political and social climate on trans lives. Through the lens of lived experience as both practitioners and community members, our facilitators will help inspire participants to think about practical ways to build more authentic and inclusive relationships with clients, colleagues, and the larger community.
