“The Weight of Caring: Building Resilience Without Losing Yourself”

November 4, 2026 | 5:00 p.m. EST

Facilitator:

Dr. Andrea Holzner, PhD, MPhil, CCP

Description:

Understanding compassion fatigue, professional burnout, and the emotional cost of helping others.

As human service professionals, we dedicate much of our lives to helping others navigate some of their most difficult moments. We listen, advocate, support, and often carry the emotional weight of those we serve long after our workday ends. But what happens when the very compassion that drives us begins to take a toll on our own well-being? In this presentation, we will explore the often-overlooked impact of chronic stress, compassion fatigue, and burnout on our brain, body, and emotional health. We will look beyond the usual conversations about self-care to better understand what it truly means to build resilience, recognize our own limits, and create healthy boundaries without losing the compassion that brought us into this profession. My hope is that participants walk away not only with practical tools, but also with a renewed understanding that caring for ourselves is not separate from the work we do; it is essential to sustaining it.
