Description: Suicide is a complex human experience that poses myriad harms to millions of people globally every year. Despite its complexity, most suicide prevention models typically emphasize either individual psychological factors or population-level public health concerns. Moreover, socio-ecological and person-in-environment frameworks often overlook historical, developmental, geographic, climatic, and physical environment contexts. The Individual-in-Contexts Model encourages human services professionals and educators to re-conceptualize suicide prevention in terms of the dynamic interplay among six, interconnected contexts. These contexts include historical-developmental, geographic-environmental, structural-institutional, neighborhood-community, family-relational, and the I-self.

Webinar participants will be able to:

  • Define suicide, screening, assessment, intervention, and prevention
  • Identify The Individual-in-Contexts Model core concepts
  • Apply concepts to suicide screening, assessment, and intervention efforts
